As my 24th birthday approaches, my thoughts weigh more heavily on my life. Am I where I should be in my 20’s, is this what I’m supposed to be doing? Is it time to start thinking about my future? Should I get a “real” job already?

These, and many other questions have played through my mind over and over again like a record on repeat. I’m constantly reading articles reflecting on how important your twenties are, how they are vital years to your future. Hundreds of blogs offer advice on how to make the most of these years and embrace every moment. It makes me wonder, am I doing the right thing?

To be honest, it’s all a bit overwhelming.

NO ONE REALLY KNOWS

So, you don’t know what you want to do with your life. Everything is one big giant question mark while everyone else seems to know exactly what they’re doing. What do you do? Instead of worrying about not knowing, why not embrace the unknown with open arms? What if you looked at the unknown as an opportunity for growth? You will never know your full potential if you stick within the safe foundations of your life.

IT’S IN YOUR HANDS

If you listen to all of the advice that is out there about how to make the most of your twenties, you’ll soon learn there are more paths at your fingertips than you can count. Is it time for you to travel and explore the world, or is it best you work and save your money for a secure future? There is no right answer- after all, you’re the driver behind the steering wheel. There will be those who want to pave the path for you, but it’s in your hands to take control of your own life. You are the only person who can decide what kind of life you wish to live.

YOU’LL FEEL LIKE YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG

Your twenties are all about figuring out who you are as a person. The only way to do this is through is forgetting about your comfort zone, immersing yourself in new experiences, and of course, making mistakes. You’re going to make mistakes- some bigger than others. Just remember, that’s a part of life and it’s one of the best ways to build your confidence. You’re not a failure and your life is not in shambles because you’ve made a few mistakes along the way. Dust yourself off and keep pursuing what makes you shine.

BE BRAVE

You might have days where you feel like you don’t know where your place is. I definitely have days where I feel like I have absolutely no idea where I belong. If you listen to what others tell you to do, you will inevitably get similar results to them. If you can be brave enough to explore what other’s have not, you will experience results they never have. It’s a wonderful gift to think differently and to have ideas unique from those around you. This is what sets you apart from others and shines a hopeful light on your future.

How do you feel about your twenties? I’d love to hear your experiences!
