LET’S TALK SUSTAINABILITY

This is a topic I’ve been teetering on the edge of truly delving in to lately. I’ve always been passionate about the environment, conservation efforts and sustainability. But, I haven’t always lived in a way that’s aligned with these passions. To put it simply, it was always easier not to, and I never knew where to start.

Thinking about becoming a more conscious consumer has often left me feeling overwhelmed. It felt like a problem that was too big for one person to fix. I’d constantly ask myself, how could I possibly make a difference in the grand scheme of things? After recently speaking out about making positive changes to your life, this is one I’d like to make in mine.

I’ve realized that there are countless alternatives to explore when it comes to living a more conscious lifestyle! Our actions have the power to create a positive shift in the culture and mindset of society, towards a sustainable way of life. During my time at Teacher’s College, I’ve met so many educators who are passionate about outdoor education, environmental sustainability, and living a conscious lifestyle. I’ve left my program feeling more inspired than ever to pursue living a conscious life, and to bring that passion to the blog.

Here are a few aspects that will be explored on the blog in the near future, along with mention of a few of my favourite sustainable bloggers.

SUSTAINABLE FASHION

How do you start curating a more sustainable wardrobe? Where do you shop? What brands are sustainable, and which brands aren’t? I’ll be bringing to light different brands that are eco-conscious and ethically made to help you find the brands that are right for you. SustainableDaisy is a fashion and lifestyle blogger that lists a great variety of sustainable products, brands and outfit ideas!

CREATING LESS WASTE

I’m always looking for ways to create less waste. From bringing my own cups and mugs to coffee shops, to using reusable bags; there are endless ways to improve your eco footprint. I’ll be talking about the best long term products to use, as well as tips to limit the waste you produce in every day life. Less Waste Laura is an inspiring Environmental Activist and blogger/ youtuber  Less Waste Laura who focuses on ways to help you consume products and live your life more consciously. Check her out!

MINDFUL TRAVELING

As someone who loves travel and travels as often as I can, I’ve come to realize the effect travel has on the landscapes and places we visit. I’ll be talking about the effect your travel has on its surrounding community and environment, as well as ways you can travel in a more sustainable way! I’ve been a long-time follower of Erin Outdoors who always has wonderful sustainable travel tips and advice. She’s recently started a new series with REI, the first episode focusing on whether Social Media is ruining the outdoors.

NATURE & THE OUTDOORS

Nature has always been an integral part of my life. The free time that I do have, I tend to spend immersed in nature and the outdoors. It’s shaped the way that I see myself and the role that I play in keeping these beautiful landscapes intact. With exploring the outdoors comes a shared responsibility to care for the land, and to leave the smallest mark behind us that we can. I’ll be writing much more content about how to ethically spend time in the outdoors,

These are just a few of the topics I feel so passionate about to share with you all. What would you like to see more on the blog about sustainability? Do you think sustainability is an important topic to share in today’s climate?
