Self doubt is something each one of us has felt at some point in our lives. It’s that uneasy worry, the feeling that we’re not good enough, aren’t doing enough, or don’t deserve the dreams we’re pursuing. Although the road to self-acceptance is filled with challenges we need to go through, constant self-doubt can hinder us from reaching our true potential.

I’ve struggled with self-doubt throughout most of my life, and have recently felt its burden when working towards achieving my goals. I’ve often felt as though my work wasn’t good enough and that others knew it too. What’s helped me is realizing that we can often be our worst enemy. The way that we talk to ourselves speaks volumes about our self confidence. I haven’t always kind and patient with myself which is something I’m working on through adopting affirmations into my daily routine.

It’s been a while since I’ve spoken about affirmations on the blog. Affirmations are beliefs that we put out into the world, and repeat to ourselves in order to change our beliefs. Here are five affirmations to add to your daily routine to help build your confidence.

I DESERVE THE THINGS THAT I’VE DREAMED FOR MYSELF

You deserve the things that you’ve dreamed for yourself. You are worthy of reaching your dream, no matter what that other voice in your mind may try to tell you. We spend so much time questioning ourselves and whether we’re worthy of achieving our dreams. What we should be doing is building ourselves up and reminding ourselves that yes, I can do this. You are allowed to believe in yourself, and to work hard for yourself.

I AM NOT CONTROLLED BY WHAT OTHERS THINK

You are more than the thoughts of others. At the end of the day, what matters most is what you think of yourself. Do you like the person you’ve become? Are you happy with who you’re growing into? Let go of the thoughts of others and what they may say about you. Will there be times where you’ll be effected by what someone might say or think about you? Sure, we’re human and it’s bound to happen. The important thing is that you don’t allow it to control your decisions or how you feel about yourself. It’s often those who are unsure of themselves who will speak poorly of others. Don’t let their doubts affect your confidence and well-being.

I AM CAPABLE OF ACHIEVING MY BIGGEST GOALS

It’s essential to set big long-term goals that we dream of achieving some day. It’s also just as important to believe that those goals are achievable. Look at your dreams, and work to change them into goals that you’re actively pursuing. Sometimes, our dreams can seem out of reach and way too big. Your dream should be big, and it should make you excited if you were to ever reach it.Reaffirm yourself that you are totally capable of achieving what you set out for yourself through resilience and hard work.

MY RESILIENCE WILL DETERMINE MY SUCCESS

It’s tempting to look at the success of others and feel like you’re nowhere near where they are. These are the thoughts that creep in and try to convince us that we should quit while we’re ahead. The longer you do something, the better you become at it. Practice is what helps us grow, and the more that you practice the more you’ll see that growth unfold. If it’s something you love, stay resilient and strong minded when you’re met with a challenge.

I WILL PURSUE WHAT MAKES ME HAPPY

If it makes you happy, it should be at the top of your priorities. If it’s something that brings you joy, it doesn’t matter if it’s not a side hustle or is advancing your career. It’s important to have hobbies and to do things that you love out of love. Not everything has to be a side hustle. When you do things out of love, you’re caring for yourself and your well-being. Keep pursuing what you love because life is too short to prioritize what doesn’t bring you a sense of happiness and peace.
